About SMART : History SMART is a concept founded by a group of hard-working business people who believe in good citizenship, responsible alcohol consumption, and protecting against the effects of alcohol abuse in Minnesota. They are the retailers with whom the citizens of this state have entrusted the sale of beverage alcohol. Individually, they are members of the Minnesota Municipal Beverage Association and the Minnesota Licensed Beverage Association. Together, they are making sure the quality of life is better in Minnesota, thanks in part to their steadfast tradition of controlling alcohol sales. For years, they have been working with local and state officials seeking ways to limit youth access to alcohol - including wine. Their success is very evident when compared to other states. Minnesota is ranked 43rd for alcohol problems when compared to the other 49 states. Of those states having the most problems, seven of the top eight allow the sale of alcohol in grocery stores. |
