Supermarkets lose legislative battle to sell wine.
Chief House author, Representative Barb Sykora has withdrawn the Wine in Grocery Store bill (House File 1205) from consideration this year. On March 29th, just as the full Commerce Committee was about to hear arguments against the measure, she understood how strong the opposition for her bill was, and withdrew it, rather than have it defeated.
Thanks to everyone who helped promote the responsible consumption of beverage alcohol in Minnesota. Through your efforts, we sent a very strong message to lawmakers about our concerns with youth access to alcohol. The grocers will be back again next year with yet another version of this issue, although the solution remains very simple. Supermarkets wishing to sell wine in their stores should apply for a liquor license.
Oppose the sale of wine in grocery stores.
