Voice of reason prevails over "sophisticated marketing campaign".
When the author of the Wine in Grocery bill withdrew it rather than have it suffer defeat, it was a victory for all who share the voice of reason for responsible alcohol consumption throughout Minnesota.
The Minnesota Grocers Association reportedly spent over $750,000 in their latest of many unsuccessful attempts to change the way beverage alcohol is distributed in Minnesota. They claimed to have "thousands of their customers" wanting the convenience of purchasing a bottle of wine with their dinner.
What the grocers found out was, it is not inconvenient to purchase a bottle of wine within the present system. Liquor stores are usually only a few doors away from major retailing centers. Most importantly, they realized that responsible Minnesotans understand that when increased access of alcohol to youth is a factor, convenience is not an issue.
The Grocers Association has said that it will be back at the Capitol next year. The giant supermarket chains are already contributing even more money to fund the next battle. What they fail to understand is that money can't buy responsibility.
We look forward to your continued support in the coming months. Make the smart choice. Support Minnesota's alcohol retailing tradition.
Oppose the sale of wine in grocery stores.
